Crown Road Wall
Have you ever walked, or driven past the Crown Road Wall (the retaining one that holds up Stephen’s Brae) and thought “What a mess. Why don’t they do something about that?” Even if you haven’t, here is your chance to influence what that something might be.

The Highland Council plans to improve the wall as part of the City Centre Streetscape programme and the wall has been identified as an excellent opportunity for an arts project, possibly with community engagement.
Inverness Old Town Art (IOTA) would like to invite submissions from anyone with a fantastic idea for the Crown Road Wall. The photographs and elevation drawing on this page give an idea of the challenge. The wall is approximately 75 metres long, 1.8 metres at its lowest point and 5.8 metres at the highest point. The overall surface area is roughly 275square metres.

This opportunity is open to artists, designers, makers, students, architects, community groups and schools. IOTA wants to transform the large expanse of curving wall facing the Eastgate Car Park entrance on Crown Road, Inverness. At this stage we are only looking for outline ideas – it is not a problem if you are not sure how to turn your idea into a reality – the IOTA team can work with you to find the best way to make it happen.
Suggested ideas can take the form of a written description, a rough sketch, drawing or outline plan.
The submission deadline is Friday 31st October 2008.
Send in your idea by email or post to the contact details below.
