An attractive and well managed urban environment is crucial to the enjoyment of the city by residents, visitors and businesses.
 
New paving on Inverness High StreetChewing gum is a serious blight on the city centre and detracts from its appearance, including new surfaces laid on High Street and Falcon Square. In a bid to counteract this, £18,000 was invested in a special street cleaning machine in November of 2005. Two operators were recruited and will be dedicated to additional cleaning of the city centre streets.

Artist impression of Castle Wynd improvementsThe Highland Council recently began the roll-out of a major domestic recycling initiative throughout its area. Recycling is an important priority for the city centre which fits with the Streetscape Programme and the reduction of clutter from refuse bins and improved refuse collection. It also meets city aspirations to be involved in the Business Improvement District and Cleanest City initiatives.
