UHI Millennium Institute

UHI Executive OfficeA University of the Highlands and Islands would be a great asset to the city of Inverness and the campaign is therefore fully suppoerted by The City Partnership.

The UHI Millennium Institute established an executive office in 2005 and not only did this retain a 200 year old landmark on the banks of the River Ness in the public sector but it also provided a vital resource for the future University of the Highlands and Islands.

The City Partnership contributed £100,000 to the project which helped to secure a total external funding package of £2m towards the £3.5m cost to purchase of the former Royal Northern Infirmary building and its redevelopment as the UHI executive office.

Video Conferencing at UHIThe £100,000 went speciffcally to suppport video conferencing facilities and equipment which is very well used as evidenced by a series of public lectures that commenced in December 2005, these are relayed to audiences throughout the city region.

Greeninverness worked with the Public Art Co-ordinator and a number of different college members of the UHI Millennium Institute to establish a project brief and ideas of what could be done with the gardens.

A steering group committee was then formed and a project manager appointed to co-ordinate and manage the project and to source funding for the development of the project.

Currently students from Perth and Moray Colleges are developing garden designs the winning design will be announced in May and after which time there will be a display at the Inverness Musuem and Art Gallery starting on May 18th.   Due to funding constraints the project will be put on hold until suitable funding can be sourced.
