The Search for a Site

There has been an ambition to create a major new gallery in the Highlands for over a decade. More recently, a vision for a combined gallery & museum has been developed by the Highland Gallery & Museum Steering Group, and the search is on to find the right site. The Steering Group and The Highland Council invited the public to participate by giving their views on three city centre sites.  These are:

Castle Street - Town House Car Park
Midmills Buildings
Northern Meeting Park (2 options)

The period of public engagement lasted from 15 November 2007 until 11 January 2008.  The public responses are currently being analysed and reports are being prepared for the Highland Council's Inverness City Committee on 4 February 2008, and Education Culture & Sport Committee on 13 March 2008 for their consideration on the way forward.

You are welcome to review the information on these web pages but please note that the on-line survey has now closed.

There are a number of ways to review the information:
Review the summary pages and background documents;
Download the leaflet; 800KB .PDF
Download the Powerpoint Presentation. 8MB .PPT

If you like, you can fly or walk around the proposed sites and look at a scale model of the size of the building on each site (not the actual design but a model that allows you to assess how a building might fit on the site.  To views these models you first need to download a piece of free software from Google http://sketchup.google.com/gsu6/download.html (select Google Sketchup Viewer).  Then right-click on each of the models below, save them to your hard drive. You should then be able to open the files and explore the sites.  It only takes about 10 minutes to learn to drive and get your L plates off!
