Cultural Facilities

Development of the cultural facilities and experiences offered within Inverness for the city-region is essential to meet community and visitor expectations, and to assist in attracting inward investment. Significant progress is being made.
Eden Court before the refurbishmentEden Court Theatre & Cinema  – re-opened in November following a £23m redevelopment programme creating a second theatre, two improved cinemas, two new dance studios and enhanced front of house and conference facilities.   Just in time to play a leading role in the Highland Year of Culture 2007 Eden Court has now become the largest arts venue in Scotland and of national, as well as regional significance. 


Plans continue for the National galleries visitcreation of an archive centre, at Bught Park and the refurbished Inverness Museum and Art Gallery  has played host to a number of new exhibitions this year, the Year Scotland Celbrates Highland Culture.  The Highland Gallery and Museum Steering Group is working on proposals for a Highland Gallery & Museum major new gallery combining visual art and museum collections for the Highlands.
Research has revealed a positive climate for promoting the introduction of public art into planned public buildings, private developments and public projects. Proposals are being prepared for a three-year project to implement a Public Art Plan. .
