Connected City Broadband connections are already delivering substantial benefits for companies and individuals, speeding connections to customers and services at home and abroad. Within the city, five touch screen information points went live early in 2005. A successful week-long trial of a Big Screen Project with the BBC proved the potential for a permanent screen in the city centre. City residents joined the Live8 audience through a big screen presentation at the ground of Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club. The installation of a real-time passenger information system, from the city centre to Inverness Airport and the village of Ardersier, will include LED flags at seven bus stops and be compatible with the Inverness SCOOT system to enable bus priority at traffic signals.
A report into the current existence and future potential of wireless hotspots identified many benefits to the city, individuals, businesses and visitors in extending hotspot technology. ICP believes it is the ideal vehicle to drive further examination of potential developments in what is a fast-moving commercial market.
Other technologies, including BT kiosks, micro-data antenna, local partnership TV and electronic notice boards are being considered by a sub-group which will prioritise activities and advise on appropriate investment. |
